Security

We want you to feel safe and secure during your stay with us at The BirthPlace. That’s why we use the state-of-the-art Hugs and Kisses infant security system.

Hugs

Each infant in The BirthPlace wears a Hugs tag on the ankle or wrist. Every exit point of The BirthPlace is monitored to detect the tags.

Staff and family can move infants freely within The BirthPlace, but no one can remove an infant without Hugs alerting the staff.

Kisses

The Kisses system ensures that each infant is with the correct mother. If the baby is taken into another mother’s room, an alarm is set off.

Fetal Monitoring

The BirthPlace also boasts a state-of-the-art fetal monitoring system. This system provides the most accurate monitoring of both mother and baby throughout the labor process.

Breastfeeding Products

A new life brings with it a whole new world of possibilities and a multitude of choices. Deciding to breastfeed is one of the best choices you can make, for both your baby and yourself. Not only is it the most natural and nutritious way to feed your baby, it also gives your baby greater protection from illness, allergies and infections. Breastfeeding also helps protect you against some cancers and helps your body return to its pre-pregnancy state faster.

When issues arise, such as a medical necessity or going back to work, or when it’s just a matter of convenience, it is often necessary to use a breast pump to collect your breast milk for later feedings. Breast pumping is not meant to replace breastfeeding, but should complement and enhance your breastfeeding experience. Pumping can also help relieve engorgement after short-term use. And, with longer-term use, pumping can ensure that your breasts receive the stimulation they need to maintain or increase your milk supply.

With so many decisions to make, finding the breast pump that is best for you can be confusing, but knowing which features to look for makes your choice easier.

Breast Pumps

Medela pumps offer the ultimate in safety and hygiene, with:

  • Automatic cycling that simulates the baby's suck-release-relax nursing pattern (pumps without this feature may not be able to help maintain your milk supply).
  • An adjustable vacuum level for maximum comfort
  • Components that can be boiled and are dishwasher-safe
  • Flexibility to work with any standard baby bottle

The Birthplace at Henderson Memorial Hospital is pleased to offer breast pumps as well as other items to make breastfeeding easier and more convenient for you. To get started, you will need to decide if you want to rent or purchase a pump. If you rent a pump, you will also need to purchase the Lactina Rental Kit.
